Restaurants
Some of the finest restaurants in the Cape Cod area are just a few minutes away and serve food in the old New England tradition. Have breakfast in Onset at The Cup of The Bay or the Pier View. Travel to the northern end of Cape Cod Canal for lunch at the Horizons which offers a splendid view of Cape Cod Bay. Evening at Lindsey's or Bailey's Surf & Turf on close by Cranberry Highway will offer you an excellent dinner.
Shopping
In Onset Center, a short two block walk, are small stores of all types. You will easily find the grocery, laundromat, donut shop, ice cream parlor, Mark Anthony's Pizzeria and antique shops. A larger super grocery is located about three miles away on Cranberry Highway. In this area are a giant water slide, go-carts, batting cages, video game parlor and antique shops.
Day Trips
Martha's Vineyard
Martha's Vineyard is an early morning trip out of Wood's Hole (about 45 minutes from Onset). No reservations needed for walk-on passengers. You can rent a van with driver on the island or take one of the frequent buses between the three towns.
Newport Rhode Island
Newport, Rhode Island is also a 45 minute trip from Onset. Here you have an opportunity to visit the great old historic mansions from a bygone era. The Breakers, built in 1895 by Cornelius Vanderbilt, Marble House, built in 1892 and Chateau-sur-Mer, built in 1852, considered the finest example of lavish Victorian architecture in America, are all open to the public daily.
Boston
Boston is an hour drive -- a truly magnificent city of great historic importance. The Freedom Trail is a self-guided driving tour that takes you to all the historic sites. The Boston Museum of Science is truly one of the world's finest science museums. The dynamic diorama display on the observation deck level of the John Hancock building gives one a new understanding of Boston history, and Paul Revere's ride to warn the colonists.The U.S. navy yard is home to the USS Constitution, the oldest fully commissioned warship in the world.
Provincetown & Whale Watching
Provincetown and Whale Watching make a wonderful day trip. A 60 minute drive to the tip of Cape Cod. Remember, the Pilgrims landed in Provincetown before they stepped onto Plymouth. The Dolphin Fleet offers whale watch tours. Provincetown has lots of art galleries, small shops and excellent restaurants, and you may catch the commercial fishing fleet unloading tons of fish. |
