welcome

Quaint and picturesque are adjectives that are frequently overused, yet they aptly describe Onset, Massachusetts. In the summertime, stately Victorian homes and inns overlook the gazebo and beach. They are the grand matrons of this quintessential New England seacoast resort.

Onset has everything for the resident and visitor. It is a popular spot with a number of little shops and restaurants in the heart of the village and a tour boat that will take visitors for enjoyable sightseeing trips into the Cape Cod Canal. And who wouldn't enjoy the pleasant music concerts from the gazebo on a warm summer evening?

Here in Onset, you will find an on-the-beach, completely furnished, 8 bedroom Victorian house in this charming seaside village. Complete with a panoramic view, small shops, fishing, boating, golfing, and excellent restaurants. It is one hour or less to Boston and other Cape attractions. Ideal for two families vacationing together.

Onset History

Onset traces its beginning to a sale in 1666 of over 8,000 acres of land; the settlers of Plimouth Plantation bought this huge tract from the native people whose regional affiliation was the Wampanoags. The transaction, known as the Agawam Purchase, created the Agawam Plantation. In Algonquin dialect, Agawam meant "The Sandy Landing Place."

Although 300 years have passed since the original inhabitants were here, gazing today from Onset Bluffs, the view of the same sparkling waters; the same lover's moon shines on the bay. And a drive along the boulevard recalls that Victorian community of long ago.

The beach in Onset offers the finest swimming and sun bathing in the area. Warmed by the Gulf Stream waters and cooled by gentle ocean breezes give you a great beach vacation. The beach is protected by nature and the constant watchfulness of experienced lifeguards provided by the Town authorities.
